Hi, my name is Dr. Vincent Venincasa, and I’m a refractive cataract specialist at Sweeney Eye Associates. I’m here to talk to you briefly about a cataract.
“Cataract” is a Greek word meaning “waterfall.” The reason it’s named this way is because, when a cataract develops, it can sometimes feel like you’re looking through a waterfall.
When a cataract forms, the natural lens of your eye changes — it goes from being clear to yellow. And once it turns yellow, it starts to cause visual symptoms.
The most common symptom is glare and halos at night, especially from oncoming headlights while driving.
Other symptoms include:
- Needing more light to see clearly
- Difficulty reading up close
- Trouble seeing in the distance
If you have any of these cataract symptoms, or have questions about your vision, please feel free to get in touch.
