Solar Eclipse Safety Tips

When watching a solar eclipse, always use certified eclipse glasses that meet the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard.

Regular sunglasses or homemade filters are not safe for viewing the sun and do not protect your eyes during an eclipse.

Keep your eclipse glasses on for the entire duration of the eclipse when looking directly at the sun — even during a partial eclipse.

Never look directly at the sun without proper eye protection. Doing so can result in serious and permanent eye damage, including a condition called solar retinopathy.

Supervise children closely, ensuring they wear their eclipse glasses properly, as they may not fully understand the risks of looking directly at the sun.

Encourage your friends, family, and community to use certified eclipse glasses or other safe solar viewing techniquesto protect their vision.

By following these precautions and using the correct protective eyewear, you can safely enjoy the beauty of a solar eclipse without putting your eyesight at risk.
