How is an intraocular contact lens different from LASIK?
An intraocular contact lens (ICL) is an implantable lens that goes inside the eye. To place the lens, I make a very small incision, allowing me to insert it carefully into position.
Once implanted, the ICL can correct:
- Nearsightedness (myopia)
- Farsightedness (hyperopia)
- Astigmatism
The lens stays in place and provides clear vision until cataract surgery is eventually needed later in life.
This is very different from LASIK, where I create a flap on the cornea and use a laser to reshape the cornea in order to improve vision.
