Dr. Patrick Sweeney, MD, is a highly regarded Ophthalmologist in North Texas and the founder of Sweeney Eye Associates. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Sweeney is an expert in cataract surgery and advanced vision correction procedures. Dr. Sweeney has performed over 25,000 cataract surgeries and 9,000 laser-assisted cataract surgeries. He approaches each procedure with precision and compassion, utilizing the latest technologies to ensure optimal results for his patients.
A graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Dr. Sweeney’s academic achievements are complemented by his athletic background, having excelled as a two-time First Team Academic All-American Defensive Back and a semi-finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship.
Dr. Sweeney’s was the first in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex to perform Restor Multifocal Lens Implant surgery and has been appointed by Alcon Pharmaceutical as a “Mentor Physician” for Restor IOL surgery nationwide. Additionally, he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and an esteemed member of various prestigious medical associations.
Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Sweeney remains actively involved in his community, coaching youth football and supporting charitable initiatives such as the Scott Bostwick Memorial Fund at Nebraska Wesleyan and the Prestonwood Pregnancy Center.
Dr. Sweeney enjoys fishing, vacationing with his family, and pursuing his passion for football and lacrosse. He is accepting new patients!

There were some issues with healing in one of her eyes but Dr. Sweeney made sure to complete subsequent procedures to assist with the addressing the concerns she had. A very positive experience. At 75 I have been lucky enough to have limited exposure to the medical community; three colonoscopys over the years. I was apprehensive, especially with something to do with my eyes. The time came for my cataract surgery and I chose Dr Sweeney because of the positive experience my wife had with him. They do your eyes one at a time, two weeks apart. The surgery was actually uneventful and not traumatic at all. The procedure takes about an hour and a half and most of this is prep for the actual surgery. I was only under anesthesia for 5 minutes, you are in twilight sleep for the procedure, which takes literally 8 minutes. The surgery center runs like a Swiss watch, efficient, on time with minimal waiting. Just had my follow-up visit one week post second surgery and my vision is 20/20 in both eyes , which is amazing since I've worn glasses since I was 6 years old and have an astigmatism . I really do not even need reading glasses;that's a big win. My depth of field is really unbelievable. Something to prepare for are the lens options which I will explain below. I have a UHC advantage plan and my copays are for the surgery center ($300 per eye). The breakdown is as follows: Basic cataract surgery includes monofocal lens; if you normally wear glasses you will again. This is covered by Medicare . You pay only for the surgery center Advanced laser, monofocal lens, with a laser incision that will correct for low astigmatism and distance vision is $1,800 per eye plus the $300 copay for the surgery center Advanced plus laser, for high astigmatism (this what I have), precise laser incision, Toric lens is $2,700 per eye plus $300 copay. Advanced Plus Premium, Precise laser incisions, premium Intraocular lens, astigmatism, reduces the need for glasses in daily wear is $3,900 per eye plus $300 copay. Custom Premium Adjustable lens, Precise laser incisions, custom Intraocular lens (RxSight light adjustable lens), for superior vision results is $5,000 per eye plus $300 copay.
