What to Expect When You’re a New Patient at Sweeney Eye Associates

Choosing a new eye doctor can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve never had an eye exam or it’s been years since your last visit. At Sweeney Eye Associates, we believe in making eye care easy, welcoming, and stress-free for every patient—whether you’re coming in for a routine eye exam, cataract evaluation, or LASIK consultation.

We know many people search for ‘eye doctors near me,’ ‘best cataract surgeon in Sunnyvale,’ or ‘LASIK providers in Richardson’ when they’re looking for care. If that’s you, you’re in the right place. Here’s what you can expect as a new patient with our team.

Getting Started Is Simple:

You do not need a doctor referral to establish care with us for a new patient examination but if you need one for insurance purposes we ake it easy for your provider to refer you via our online referral portal.

We make scheduling easy for new patients. You can book your appointment by:

Typical Wait Times for An Appointment:

We have Financing for Self-Pay

Your First Visit: The Comprehensive Eye Exam

Generally, with a new patient, our team will recommend you start with a comprehensive eye exam. Even if you’re interested in something specific—like cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, or LASIK—a full exam gives us a complete view of your eye health.

What’s Included in a Comprehensive Eye Exam?
– Vision testing for glasses or contacts (we do not sell glasses but can give you a prescription)
– Dilated exam to check the health of your retina and optic nerve
– Eye pressure check for glaucoma screening Read more
– Evaluation for cataracts or other lens changes
– Advanced imaging if needed

Most comprehensive exams take about 45 to 60 minutes and are designed to catch eye conditions early—even before symptoms appear. Whether your goal is to maintain great vision, explore vision correction options, or address specific concerns, your comprehensive exam is the foundation of personalized care.
