After surgery, you’ll return home the same day. It’s normal to experience mild discomfort, a gritty sensation, or blurry vision as your eye begins to heal.

Your doctor provides:

  • protective shield to wear while sleeping
  • Easy-to-follow post-operative instructions
  • Prescription eye drops to prevent infection

WEEK 1: STEADY PROGRESS

Most patients notice clearer vision and reduced discomfort within a few days. Continue using your prescribed eye drops as directed.

Avoid the following:

  • Rubbing your eyes
  • Heavy lifting or bending over
  • Swimming or hot tubs

Your First Post-Op Visit (24–48 hours after surgery):

Your surgeon will:

  • Check your eye pressure
  • Monitor your healing
  • Answer early questions

WEEKS 2–4: SHARPER VISION EMERGES

This is when the results truly shine. You’ll likely notice:

  • Brighter, more vibrant colors
  • Reduced glare and halos
  • Improved contrast and clarity

If you chose a premium intraocular lens (IOL) like:

…you may enjoy clear distance and near vision without glasses.

AFTER ONE MONTH: FULL HEALING

By week 4 to 6, most patients return to full activity, including:

  • Exercise
  • Driving
  • Swimming

At your final follow-up visit, your surgeon will confirm your healing is complete and assess your final vision outcome.

COMMON CATARACT SURGERY RECOVERY FAQS

Most patients have 2–3 follow-up appointments:

  • 24–48 hours after surgery
  • One week later
  • Final check-up at 4–6 weeks

You may be cleared to drive within 24 hours if your vision is stable and you’re off sedating medications. Always follow your doctor’s advice.

Patients with premium lenses like PanOptix®, Vivity™, or LAL often enjoy life with little to no glasses.

Some blurriness is normal early on. If it lingers, we’ll evaluate for:

  • Dryness or irritation
  • Inflammation
  • Posterior capsule opacification (PCO), which is easily treated with a YAG laser
  • Light activity: 2–3 days
  • All activities (including swimming): 4–6 weeks
