How I Got Clear Vision After Refractive Lens Exchange with the Light Adjustable Lens

After I got the light adjustable lens, I obviously no longer had to wear contacts or glasses. I didn’t have to wear readers, small print. The light has to be really good, but heck after everything before this, it’s amazing how great my, my vision is. I got my first pair of glasses when I was nine and my first pair of contacts when I was 14.

I was wearing contacts for well over 40 years before. I got this surgery and now I wake up in the morning and I don’t need anything. And this first few weeks it was quite an adjustment and even to the point where at night I’d be like, oh, I need to go take my contacts out. Oh wait, no, I don’t have to like it.

It took a little bit to get used to all of that. So I had one eye was the prescription was over a minus 13 and the other eye was over a minus 14. They do the surgery, uh, a week apart. So they had done one eye and I went in the day before the second surgery for a follow-up on that and a pre-op on the other one.

The tech said, can you see that letter? And I’m like, Nope. All I can see is the white square. And he kind of looked at me and it’s like, okay. So he made an adjustment. He is like, can you see it yet? I’m like, no. And my daughter happened to be with me and she knew how bad my eyes were and she just starts cracking up laughing.

And finally he got it big enough to where I’m like, okay, well there’s black on this screen. And he’s like, okay. And so they measured that at, it was at a 2,800 at that point.

The surgeries were actually very easy. We were in, we were out. Um, I was home. Laying on the couch, whether it’s cataracts or don’t have cataracts, or if it’s just getting a lens replacement, I highly recommend it. It, it really does change your life. And Dr. Patrick Sweeney and all of the nurses and technicians, they’re fantastic.
