Hi, let’s talk cataract surgery and cataract surgeons.
I’m Dr. Gonzalez. I’ve been in ophthalmology in the Dallas area for 30 years, and I’m going to give you five things you have to consider in your cataract surgery:
1. Not too old, not too young
You want somebody with experience — someone who has performed the procedure before and is in the prime of their professional career.
2. Pre- and post-op care
You want a surgeon who visits with you before the procedure and after the procedure. I’ve found that these are the kindest professionals and will guide you through the entire surgical experience.
3. High-volume surgeon
Choose someone who’s done the procedure many times. If complications arise, they’ll know what to do and can react calmly and effectively under pressure.
4. Ask friends
Ask, “Who did your cataract surgery?” In my case, I had mine done by Dr. Pat Sweeney.
5. Ask industry peers
Fellow physicians can give great insight into who’s exceptional. Just like in everything, we have good, better, and best. In my heart, mind, and experience, Dr. Patrick Sweeney has been excellent — not just for me, but for my patients over the last 30 years.
