Who’s a Candidate for LASIK?
Generally speaking, patients between 18-50, that wear glasses and/or contact lenses, that have no history of eye trauma or diseases are good candidates. At Advanced Eye & Laser Center of Mansfield, our doctor and clinical staff will perform a series of eye tests to help determine if LASIK is right for you. Patients that are over 50 might be a better candidate for refractive lens exchange, which can correct both nearsightedness, as well as the loss of near vision (presbyopia).
What if I’m not a candidate for LASIK?
Patients that have thin corneas, corneal scarring, or conditions such as dry eyes may be a better candidate for other procedures that we offer such as photo refractive keratectomy (PRK), refractive lens exchange (RLE) or the implantable collamer lens (ICL). During your LASIK evaluation, our doctor will go over all of your options and let you know which one is right for you .
